Salford born Danny Simpson played originally for Eccles youth team Parkwyddn AFC and by the age of 15 had attracted the scouts of Manchester United. He joined the United youth system as a trainee and made rapid progress to the reserve squad in 2005. In January 2006, in order to gain match experience he was loaned to United's Belgian second division feeder club Royal Antwerp for the remainder of the season. He became a 1st team regular with the club.
Back at Old Trafford in the summer of 2006 he made his senior debut for United on the club's South African tour against Kaizer Chiefs on 18th July 2006, which the Reds won 1-0. Sir Alex Ferguson stated that Simpson looked "anything but a player making his first start for Manchester United". The first half of the 2006-07 season Danny was back at Royal Antwerp again. In January 2007 upon returning to Manchester, he was taken by Roy Keane to Sunderland for his second loan of the season were he joined up with another young United defender, Jonny Evans. Both won praise for playing a big role in Roy Keane's side winning promotion to the Premier League.
Simpson signed a new contract with Manchester United in August 2007 to keep him at the club until 2010. He made his first competitive appearance for United on 26th September 2007 in a shock home 2-0 Carling Cup loss to Coventry City. His Premier League debut was a much more happy occasion on 6th October 2007 against Wigan at Old Trafford. Coming on as a 30th minute substitute for John O'Shea, he assisted the fourth goal, crossing for Wayne Rooney in a 4-0 win to United.
His European debut came on 23 October 2007, when he came on as a substitute against Dynamo Kiev and made his first full European start at home to Dynamo Kiev in November when United won 4-0. Fans have been impressed by his confidence on the ball, tackling, pace and solid performances at right back.
